Winterday in Berlin

Standard
1929 was the coldest winter since records began in Germany, and here in virtual 1920s Berlin we’ve been suffering trough lots of snow, ice and coal shortages.
But we’ve made it (well most of us anyway) and it won’t be long before everything starts to melt.
Soon our city will be dusty, smelly and hot again so before that happens, lets enjoy winter one more day.
Sunday 23rd of February will be our annual Winterday!
During this day we will celebrate the weather, snow will fall for the last time, we’ll skate and have fun on the ice but the next day, slowly, snow and ice will start melting and Berlin will prepare for spring.
At 2pm we’ll have Happy Hour on Ice.
Join us on the Spree for some hot drinks, music and of course our annual ice skating race!
500 L$ for the man, woman or child who goes around the spree the fastest!
At 3pm we all move to the Wannsee Winterfest!
With wonderful things to do and see and some fundraising to help pay for the beach.
We’re going to have a lots of fun and it will also be your last chance to make atmospheric winter themed pictures in Berlin for a long time.

Winter photo contest & Winter day

Standard

1929 was the coldest winter since records began in Germany, and here in virtual 1920s Berlin we’ve been suffering trough lots of snow, ice and coal shortages.

But we’ve made it (well most of us anyway) and it won’t be long before everything starts to melt.

Soon our city will be dusty, smelly and hot again so before that happens, lets enjoy winter one more weekend.

Today it started snowing again but it will only last just one more weekend, Monday will be the last day of snow till next winter.

Sunday will be our annual ‘winter day’, with a ice skating race on the Spree and our daily ‘Happy Hour’ on ice.

Come take part, winner gets to take home money!

And we also have a seasonal photo contest that shows how that time of year changes our city and our lives.

This last weekend of snow is of course the perfect time to take your winter photo contest picture!

The rules;

Upload a snapshot to our flickr group.

It has to be made in the 1920s Berlin project.

The theme of your photo should be; Winter in Berlin.

The picture we like most will receive 500 Linden!

And remember, if you sign up for SL Go, you get to make pictures with the graphics set to ultra!

Shadows, light effects and a super frame rate may help you make even better photos and this photo contest might be a good excuse to give SL Go a try!

Winter comes to Berlin

Standard

Last night, during our daily gathering at the local bar ‘Der Keller’, it started to snow and after a few hours the entire city was covered in a thick white blanket.

The snow will keep falling regularly till the new year.

Come on over and enjoy this cold season, wander the streets or go explore the huge (3 region) Tiergarten park with lots of photogenic locations.

The water will freeze in a couple of days.

The weather makes Berlin especially suitable for photography and if you add your winter scene photos to our Flickr group you may even win our winter photo prize of 1000 Lindens!

More about this seasonal photo contest soon.
