1920s silent movie completely filmed in Second Life (and 1920s Berlin!

The very talented Machinima maker Amelie Marcoud, well known for several Second Life videos, has jus released her biggest project yet.

Her 16 minute long film in the style of an 1920s silent movie is called ‘The Fiancée’ and was filmed in our 1920s Berlin sim.

The story is that typical of an old fashioned melodrama.

Anyone who has ever made a video or even just a picture in Second Life knows how much of a challenge this is.
Making a long film with an actual story, lots of actors, extras and props is therefor quite an achievement!

We congratulate everyone involved on a job well done and look forward to seeing Amelie’s next production!

Enjoy the film;

Relaxed Rules day in 1920s Berlin

As part of our 6th anniversary celebrations we are organising a so called ‘Relaxed Rules Day’.

As you may know, Berlin has a dress code, we ask all our visitors to look realistic and authentic for the theme of our sim.
But now and then we decide to relax these rules to give new people a chance to explore our sim even if they don’t feel like dressing up or having a realistic avatar.

So, on Relaxed Rules Day we will NOT be asking people to dress in the 1920s style and we will be welcoming avatars such as furries, tinies, demons, fantasy animals, etc.
The only rules we will be enforcing are that we will not accept public nudity or Nazi related behaviour and dress.
Of course anyone bothering or harassing people will also be send home.

This may be a good day to show Berlin to your friends who have not been here before and may feel a bit intimidated by our rules or roleplay.

We will also allow flying on this day so you can see the city from a whole new angle.

Warning; the regular people of Berlin often use this day to go a little crazy and do all those things they are normally not allowed.
If you are one of those Berliners, please keep an eye on what you’re rezzing, we don’t have THAT many spare prims, so don’t use this day to rez 100 prim limousines, etc.

Have fun and remember, this is a great excuse to bring some of your SL friends to Berlin who have not been before!

Our regular events will continue on this day.
At 14:00 we’ll have our daily Happy Hour at the Biergarten.
At 18:00 There will be a special Late night Tanz at the Hotel Adlon.

RRD will only happen on June 3rd, from midnight to midnight, SL time.

1920s Berlin at SL10B celebrations

Just like the previous years, The 1920s Berlin project has taken part in the anniversary celebrations of Second Life.

I was given a small plot where I was to build something that represented our presence in this grand virtual world but to also show something of this year’s theme;

“Second Life – Looking Forward, Looking Back”

In our plot here we are doing this in several ways.
We are looking back at the history of our sim by recreating ‘Der Keller’, the place that has been the heart of our community for over 4 years, some of its textures practically unchanged since the day we opened to the public.
But we also show the change and progress by showing you what we are now doing with mesh!
The modern Bauhaus across the street is made from mesh and although it is just a small reproduction of the original you can see in Berlin, it should already give you a little bit of an idea of what we now build in our city.
And of course, putting a modern state of the art 1920s apartment block across the street from a dirty old dilapidated smelly building, we’re also showing the theme by using history and architecture.

The main reason for us being there, besides it being a lot of fun and an honour to be able to represent Second Life of course, is to introduce our wonderful community to strangers, to those who have not yet visited us or have not even heard about it.

For this reason we will have our daily (yes daily!) Happy Hour there in this new place, in this clone of our good old Keller Tanzlokal!

So come on over one of these days, 2pm pdt, and join us for a drink, dance and chat.

No dress code here, so come as a furry, elf, giant or fantasy animal, dress in clothes from any era you like.

If you have never been to 1920s Berlin before, this is a good try to get a little taste of what we have to offer and perhaps, you’ll decide to come join us in the full region version some time!
