1920s Berlin celebrates its 9th anniversary!

Standard

Yes it has been 9 years since the 1920s Berlin Project opened its doors to the public and amazingly, after all these years our community is as active, vibrant, exciting, fun and alive as always.
All the apartments are still rented and it is generally still very difficult to find a home!
We still pull in crowds at our events, even the daily one in that dark smokey pub with the cheap lukewarm beer from dirty glasses served by a grumpy Dutch barmaid!

In short, our time traveling community is still a success and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down.

As every year, we’re celebrating by organising a week of special events, starting with the annual dance at the foot of the Brandenburg Gate and ending with the Relaxed Rules day where we for 24 hours lift our strict rules and welcome everyone who doesn’t like having realistic avatars or wearing 1920s clothing.

Happy anniversary to all Berliners, Berlin’s friends and that poor Linden Lab server that must be crying every day keeping our busy, uber-laggy sim working.

Our anniversary schedule;

  • Wednesday 30th May 2pm
Anniversary dance on Pariser Platz with Sonatta Morales & DJ Myron Byron
  • Thursday 31st May 2pm
Special outdoor Happy Hour by the coffee cart on Unter den Linden with Morgan G Dowd and DJ Maegara Hesse

Special Dinner with the newly unique 9th anniversary champagne followed by a dance in the Mirror Ballroom at the Adlon hosted by Morgan G Dowd and with LIVE music by Joaquin Gustav!

Our exhibit at Second Life’s 14th birthday community celebration

Standard

This year’s theme for the SL14b Community Celebration is “Carnivalesque!”,

Looking at Berlin during the 1920s, it was not easy to find a connection between this city and the exotic theme.
Although the 1920s were a golden era for Berlin, for most people it was a harsh time, with extreme poverty, political instability, crime and in stead of living in brand new modern comfortable Bauhaus buildings most people lived in small dark apartments, such as the infamous ‘Mietskazernes’, rent barracks, the tenements.

But when doing my research I found several pictures and drawings (especially by the amazing Heinrich Zille) showing these same common working class people having dances, parties and even a circus in those typical Berlin ‘Hofs’, the courtyards that existed inbetween their tenements.

This inspired me for our SL14B exhibit.

I have created a typical Berlin “Hinterhof” as it could have looked in the 1920s.
A courtyard overlooked by lots of small apartments where big families lived.
The tenants are having their ‘Carnival’, the yard has been decorated, a biergarten has been set up in a corner, there is a little stage and the place is ready for a party, allowing our Berliner to forget their worries for a short moment.

Every day during the first week of SL14B, at 2pm SLT Berlin locals will gather here in the Hof and have a drink, dance and chat.
You’re welcome to join us.

The 1920s Berlin Project has been an vibrant community in Second Life for over 8 years and has allowed many thousands of people the opportunity to do not only try but share one of the most exiting adventures imaginable; Time Travel.

As a historical immersive roleplaying sim, people are given the chance to step back into the past to try and find out what life was like in this wonderful city before the Nazis took over.

If you want to come and visit us, click here;

Keep in mind though, the sims won’t open to the public till the official opening at noon SLT on June the 18th.

Auf Wiedersehen!

The 1920s Berlin Project celebrates its 8th anniversary!

Standard

I can’t believe that it has been 8 years since that evening in 2009 when I opened my club and had our first little 1920s Berlin themed party in a tiny skybox.
I didn’t expect much of it, I had only been in SL for a week when I started building and I had no idea what I was doing.
But the theme somehow managed to attract the right crowd and within no time a vibrant community of creative, fun, interesting and exciting people started to grow and populate my simplistic pile of prims.
This in turn motivated me and soon I wanted more than a little square with a cinema, shops and club floating high up in the sky.
So I started to improve my building skills, organised more events, did more research and slowly but surely a themed skybox became a neighbourhood and eventually a real city that would withstand the test of time.

It is impossible to explain how much the 1920s Berlin project means to me and I am always touched and excited to hear that it also means a lot to so many others.

On the 30th of May 2017 we’re celebrating the 8th (!) anniversary of our sim and we’re going to celebrate with a week of events!

The 1920s Berlin Project celebrates its 7th anniversary!

Standard

In January 2007 I first joined Second Life, I looked around for a bit, didn’t see anything I liked, didn’t like what I saw and left after a few days.
In February 2009 I decided to run Second Life again, simply to test the ability of my then new computer.
And minutes before I decided that Second Life was not for me and would leave for ever (again) I found the ‘search’ option, tried a few search terms that appealed to me and found the first sim I actually liked; a surreal vintage bar called ‘Flashmans’.
There I suddenly realised that I everything I saw was made by users just like me and that maybe I could create something myself.
And I was doomed lost hooked.
The rest is, as they call it, history.

Within weeks I started working on The 1920s Berlin Project and on May the 30th 2009 I opened the door to a little very basic, noob build bar and let the public in for the first time.
The 1920s Berlin Project was born!

Still a noob who barely knew what she was doing, with no experience whatsoever, I started what would soon grow into a vibrant active community of wonderful people.
In our fantastic neighbourhood people have been extremely creative, active and something great and rare is the result.
I cannot put into words how much the sim and its people means to me and to my delight it means a lot to many of those who live there as well.

On the 30th of May 2016 we’re celebrating the 7th (!) anniversary of our sim and we’re going to celebrate with 7 days of events!

We hope you come and be part of the celebrations, if you don’t want to change your avatar or outfit, don’t worry.
We end our celebrations with a Relaxed Rules day where we have no dress code and everyone (but naked people, Nazis and naked nazis) is welcome.

We also plan to add extra freebies to our teleport area so if you like free stuff… at least check those out!
