Tonight the Edlorado played host to La Belle Otero, the famous Spanish-born dancer, actress and courtesan, who entertained us as regally as she is said to have entertained some of the richest and most powerful men in Europe, including several crowned heads! Menfolk were on a tight leash as Senorita Otero went through a dazzling dance routine, her flimsy garments doing little or nothing to conceal her splendid figure. No doubt for those gentleman of a literary bent La Belle’s gyrations brought to mind of the words of the English poet, Robert Herrick in ‘Upon Julia’s Clothes’:
Next, when I cast mine eyes and see
That brave vibration each way free ;
O how that glittering taketh me!
Not to be outshone, our own dear Frl Morales, backed by three gorgeous dancers, closed the show with a daring and athletic routine.
Another great evening at Berlin’s foremost nightspot, which as usual extended deep into Sunday morning. It’s what weekends were made for!
